Just as it seemed the tsunami of COTY (Color of the Year) announcements for 2025 had finally subsided, WGSN, a leading trend forecasting agency, entered the chat. In collaboration with Coloro, a comprehensive color system, WGSN unveiled its COTY prediction for not just one but two years down the line. Let’s reveal what the ‘It’ color of the year 2026 is going to be below!

The It color for 2026? Brace yourself…it’s Transformative Teal!
Teal, a captivating blend of blue and green, can be found on dragonflies’ wings, ocean waves, and, if you’re bold enough, cabinets, kitchen islands, bookshelves, and more. WGSN’s head of color, Urangoo Samba, touts its versatility and multifaceted nature, calling Transformative Teal “an intriguing new dark shade that feels both mysterious and mesmerizing.”
Why teal in 2026, and why “transformative”? According to WGSN, teal embodies an “Earth-first mindset,” “planet positivity,” and resilience. Based on its data-driven forecasting methods, WGSN predicts that people will increasingly demand changes in how we interact with the environment, both on a global scale and in our daily microenvironments. It’s fitting that a color merging the particular shades of lush forests and all the world’s oceans was chosen to represent these concepts. Expect to see teal popping up everywhere: on armchair fabrics, runways, and even the exteriors of your favorite headphones’ latest model.
Creating a luxurious and opulent living room style is effortless with this color. Paired with soft, plush textiles in complementing and contrasting hues, such as a velvety soda with gold accents, the overall look and feel of the space becomes one of refined luxury.
This captivating living room showcases the transformative power of color. The deep teal walls, reminiscent of the ocean’s depths, create a sense of serenity and sophistication. The gold-framed mirror, plush velvet sofa, and vibrant green vase add layers of luxury and texture. The patterned rug and pillow provide pops of color that dance against the calming backdrop. This space is a testament to the transformative potential of color in creating a truly inspiring and inviting environment.
Color enthusiasts may recall that Benjamin Moore’s Aegean Teal was named the Color of the Year in 2021. In recent years, we’ve also witnessed the rise of other rich jewel tones, such as Behr’s Rumors. Is there something in the water (teal-colored, of course)? You’ll have to wait until 2026 to find out.
