The art movement that first began in the UK back in the 50s, quickly made its way across the ocean to spark the interest of artistic minds such as Andy Warhol, who came to be one the central figures of pop art. From there, the cross to home decor was quick, and today we can see gorgeous mid-century modern homes rocking an amazing pop art decor. Let’s take a walk…

The big idea behind pop art when it first surfaced in the 1950s was to incorporate the images people were becoming used to see in pop culture, as well as advertising. Advertising was on the rise at the time, and it only made sense that it was represented in a form of art, trying to keep up with the changes that were happening in the post-war world. The result was an art movement full of colors, iconic expressions and a little bit of irony added to the mix.

Product labeling and logos figure prominently in the imagery chosen by pop artists, seen in the labels of Campbell’s Soup Cans, by Andy Warhol, for example. However, iconic artists such as Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn were also immortalized in Andy Warhol artwork that we still know to this day!
