Born in Paris in 1978 and raised by an architect father and therapist mother, Michaël Malapert started at a young age with his passion for interior design, topped with a perfect notion of space and energy. Expanding his mind and fuelling his vision, he quickly learned from his parents and later began to study what he loved the most.
After studying furniture design, he later went on to work at Philippe Starck, taking on large-scale international projects in Shangai, Bangkok, London and Marrakech. It was only in 2007 though, that he set up his own interior architecture and design studio and has been creating interiors for restaurants, bars and hotels for 10 years, surprising us with his incredible creativity and know-how.
At the end of 2016, Michael’s agency became Maison Malapert, an interior architecture workshop specializing in the creation of mixed and immersive living spaces. His approach to design is mostly focused on the energies of the spaces, creating synergy between the distribution of the very foundation of each project.
“The vocabulary he employs shakes up the traditional boundaries and creates open-plan living spaces.”
Michaël Malapert always changes the game, turning hotels into a gallery, a bar into a games room, kitchens extended to living spaces, bars placed into the centre of the action, etc. It’s alll about creating a story, an identity, and changing the way we see design.
