The renowned British designer, Tom Dixon, presented a creative series of furniture designs that are a representation of the trendy eco-friendly concept that is starting to become quite popular in the design world. This unique collection, according to Dixon, came from a nostalgic place: the house he lived in when he was a child had cork floors.
Made from entirely from cork, this brand new furniture collection by Tom Dixon that has been charred to give it a rich, deep brown colour reminiscent of rosewood. The Cork collection is composed by a modern shelf with plenty of storage space, a unique stool and three tables, with chubby, rounded silhouettes that are designed to let the material shine. With a rocky appearance, the line made one of the world’s best interior designers invests in a material that is natural, recyclable and biodegradable.
Featuring a sleek Scandinavian aesthetic and soft round edges, Tom Dixon explained that his natural material with great warmth and tactility is one of the best resources from the interior design world since it is absorbent, fireproof, water-resistant and lighter than water, perfect for transportation.
All of the pieces from Tom Dixon‘s new furniture collection are made in Portugal. The British interior designer looked out for the best cork materials with the same Portuguese manufacturer that is also supplying cork for the 2020 Serpentine Pavilion designed by South African architecture studio, Counterspace. After modelling the furniture, the remaining production residues are granulated and compressed into new cork blocks.
