Last week in New York took place the Met Gala 2017, one of the most important events of the year in the fashion industry. Also known under the name of Met Ball, Met Gala is an annual fundraising ceremony for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, a black-tie extravaganza that is held the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute.
This special party is known for its celebrity and fashion guests; this year the hosts were Anna Wintour, Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams; honorary chairwomen were Ms. Kawakubo and Caroline Kennedy, the former United States ambassador to Japan.

The theme was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: in particular, the exhibit featured about 120 Comme des Garçons womenswear designs by Kawakubo, dating back to the label’s first runway collection in 1981, all the way to her most recent shows.
Thanks to Ms. Wintour, the editor of American Vogue and the artistic director of Condé Nast, during the last 20 years this local philanthropic event has been transformed into the ultimate global celebrity/power/luxury cocktail – whose tickets are the among the most requested of the year. Madonna, Jeremy Scott, Kin Kardashian are only some of the celebrities that attended the fashion show.
Because of the star quotient and the elaborate red carpet – in which guests pose on the grand entrance stairs to the museum – this party is also called “the Oscars of the East Coast”.
The Gala is invitation-only and qualifications for inclusion have to do with buzz and achievement. Of course, in a show of this magnitude, beauty is one of the main requirements; just look at the stars that partecipated during all the previous editions. Beauty, elegance, charm are the keywords of the Met Gala. And the stylish New York is certainly the perfect location to host a similar event!
