Set in the remote Methow Valley, this magnificent house named Studhorse responds to the clients’ desire to experience and engage the surrounding environment throughout all four seasons. The 20-acre site is nestled in the northern portion of the 60-mile long glacial valley and the buildings are arranged to frame carefully composed views of the surrounding Studhorse Ridge and Pearrygin Lake.
Referencing the tradition of circling wagons, the buildings—four small, unattached structures—are scattered around a central courtyard and pool. With the four buildings oriented to open to the central courtyard, the design is oriented toward family life and entertaining.
The pool faces the valley and comes to greet us with the most breathtaking view in the morning or at sun’s down. Every bit of this design was thought to fit the client’s need to embrace nature and the surrounding environment.
As you’ll be able to see, the whole house features wide windows, that deepen the inside’s connection with the outside, creating a more inviting and lively atmosphere.
Public areas, including the family room, kitchen and bar are grouped together in the common area pavilion. Private areas—the master bedroom, kids’ bedroom, and den—are more secluded in an adjacent building.
This amazing mid-century modern home even features a nice bar, perfect for the longer summer evenings.
