The most iconic TV shows and family sitcoms became a portrayal of the society of the period of time the series represented, so we can find a lot of interior design inspiration in them.
And that’s exactly what we did!
We collected a list of the most memorable TV living rooms ever and combined them with some Essential Home’ pieces so that it wouldn’t be an exact replica of the rooms but it will have the same sensation.

Friends
The TV series that started in 1994 and it’s still today quoted by the young and old followed a group of six friends that lived in Manhattan. Besides providing a lot of inspiration on achieving the most 90’s look, it was also a reflection of a lot of young adults homes’ interior design. Featuring some of the biggest trends in decor of the time, like the wooden look, the blue and white color palettes and the country accents.
To update this space we chose the Bardot Sofa since it also has tapered legs, arm rests and can be upholstered with any fabric the client desires. Next, the Carver Armchair was our favorite because it was cleaner lines while still looking as comfortable as Rachel’s couch. Lastly, we decided to feature the Lautner Center Table considering it has a mix of earth-tone colors from the varnished walnut wood and polished brass.
Seinfeld
The comedy show that followed Jerry Senfeld’s career lasted for almost a decade and it’s still adored today. We would be remiss to not include this series since the blue couch is so iconic.
It would be careless of us not to featured a blue sofa, so we decided on the Mansfield Sofa, it’s sleek and undeniably represents modern elegance. To refresh the coffee table we chose the Craig Center Table, because it has uncompromised retro style and strong presence such as the wooden one in Jerry’s home. Finally, we thought that a lighter bookcase with rejuvenate the room so we went with the Blake Shelf.
Full House
This family sitcom is a staple of american TV and it represents the late 80’s and early 90’s perfectly with the beige walls, skirting on the couch and tables and the country inspiration.
To revamp the living room, we selected the Romero Sofa because it features strong shapes and hard edges along with a rich velvet fabric. The fact that doesn’t have arm rests makes it look sleeker and modern, while still being a classic piece.

How I Met your Mother
The show that started in 2005 and lasted until 2014, followed a group of 5 best friends through their lives using flashbacks to the past. The living room in Marshall and Lily’s apartment became classic meeting point of the gang.
To bring this look to the present day, we chose the Novak Sofa, since it’s big enough for the group and it’s also upholstered in leather, it combines some details from mid-century style with a contemporary design vision. For more needed seating space, we decided to go with the Romero Armchair and Hudson Armchair, because they have a contrasting feminine and masculine look respectably. We thought it would be smart to bring a cleaner coffee table into the room, such as Newson Center Table. Finally, as a rug, we concluded that the Aubrey Rug is the right choice, as it also features some earthy tones.
Mad Men
We would be extremely negligent to not mention Mad Men, since the series is one of the sources of inspiration of Essential Home. The AMC show won 5 Golden Globes and it’s a drama about one of New York’s most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm’s most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper.
With a mid-century look, Don Draper bachelor pad is perfect to be recreated by Essential Home. For the long couch, we chose the Sophia Sofa that can be adjusted to be the size you desire. As a drinks cabinet, we decided to go with the Monocles Cabinet, which is split in two sections: one with a set of shelves and drawers, accented by brass knurling knobs, and the other a stylish storage space for cocktails. To update the bar chair, we went with Collins Bar Chair which has sleek mid-century modern lines. Lastly, to add more sitting space we chose the Ellen Dining Chair since it has luxurious features.
