Today let’s talk about an amazing Mid-Century Modern Renovation by Buck & Simple. This company is composed by a creative team of Australian architects that believe in the inherent beauty of simplicity, great design, and timeless interiors. The perfect motto for perfect Mid Century Interiors and Projects.
For this Sidney project they brought a throwback to mid-century modernism; with classic volumes, lines, and details. In the beginning, this private beach residence was in need of more space, as well as improving on its connection to the outside, all while respecting the original home. And that was their main goal, Buck & Simple modernized the arrangement and incorporated sustainable elements to improve its environmental status.

One of the plans were to relocate the living areas to the lower floor with the main goal of creating a greater connectivity to the generous rear yard, and re configuring the private spaces upstairs so like that they would take advantage of views through the newly created green roof in the foreground.
The lightly colored, textured brickwork is used both internally and externally to define the new volume.
The color scheme was kept minimal as to allow the homeowners’ artwork to become the focal point in each space.
In the construction side the company focused on traditional building techniques intertwined with contemporary detailing, they combined double brick cavity walls with generous sized custom timber-framed glazing. The green roof was structurally supported by an exposed, white, coffered timber ceiling, that provided articulation and a play of light when viewed from the living areas below.
This d+k house is a culmination of context sensitive design and modernist simplicity. It’s the perfect example that Mid century Design allied with modern and contemporary design are the perfect mixed .
