Summer is still not over and there is still time to plan a weekend getaway or even a full week dedicated to yourself and your family and friends. And we just so happen to know the perfect place for you to stay. If you have never been to Greece, then this might be your chance to get to know Santorini in all its glory. What you are about to see is a jaw-dropping luxury hotel in Santorini with the most breathtaking views and an interior design that doesn’t fall far from the tree. It was updated just last year by Interior Design Laboratorium and the result was the most magical and inspiring hotel you can imagine.
Comissioned in 2016, the Porto Fira Suites in Santorini were totally revamped by the Greek interior design studio Interior Design Laboratorium. The interior design studio director Stamos Hondrodimos was the mind behind this operation that, by the time it was over, counted thirteen fully renovated suites, as well as a brand new outdoor decor.
Located on the cusp of the island’s volcanic Caldera, the building that nowadays holds Porto Fira Suites hotel was once the Church of Saint John the Theologian. This ended up being a massive inspiration for the designers throughout the process, who made sure to honor this patrimony by using the church’s minimal solemnity as their design basis.
“Our goal was to harmoniously combine the simplicity of the space with the heaviness of the materials, such as the aged wood and metal,” said Stamos Hondrodimos.
In terms of the final result, what the designers’ approach means is that you end up with the picture-perfect hotel suites. Looking at any of the 13 suites that make up the hotel, you have a clear example of what you would expect from an idyllic hotel in the coveted island of Santorini.
Each hotel suite boasts the most stunning heavy stone, Byzantine-style flooring both inside the suites and outside on the private verandas. You can also count on smooth, whitewashed walls that form arches around doorways and windows, as well as a black-bottomed, waterfall pool that seemingly spills out into the deep blue Aegean Sea. And of course, you have to top it up with a soothing and somewhat cooling color palette composed mainly by white highlighted by notes of gray, blue and black, creating an inspiring scandinavian style bedroom. It is also important to say that in trying to keep authenticity, each piece of furniture and lighting fixture was specially commissioned and custom-made for this specific project.
Of course, and it goes without saying, that one of the most beautiful aspects of this wonderful hotel is the breathtaking views not only over the stunning Santorini island but also over the Aegean Sea. Maybe having been inspired by the monastic simplicity of the old Saint John church had something to do with the perfect-picture we get to see know, we don’t know. But what we do know is that as soon as you walk into this picturesque hotel, you will not want to get out…
