If you’re a true design lover, we bet Design Insider is already one of your favorite design captions! Mid-Century Furniture Blog has decided to do a special round of interviews with some of the most amazing interior designers that attended this edition of Casa Décor. For 5 weeks, we’ll be sharing the most interesting conversations with our favorite designers, so stay tuned!

Javier Escobar needs no introduction. The interior designer has been making waves in the design field, and after presenting his one-of-a-kind exhibition at Casa Décor Madrid, we decided to talk with him to know more about his unique signature style and next projects!

Mid-Century Furniture Blog: Javier, you have already admitted that you have always been passionate about art and design and that you knew from a very young age that you wanted to dedicate yourself to it. What motivated you to follow your passion for the world of design? What are the main design names that inspire you?
Javier Escobar: What motivated me was to be able to create spaces from scratch with a totally different style and aesthetic, but always following my essence. Danish style, natural, eclectic and contemporary style.

MCFB: You are known for working with natural materials (marble, wood, rattan, clay …) in all your projects. How do you manage to combine functionality and aesthetics in them?
JE: The most important thing is to know well the natural materials, to be able to know what positive and negative characteristics they have in order to give the material the correct purpose. For them to marry aesthetically, the correct choice of colors and textures of natural materials must be taken into account to achieve the perfect color palette.

MCFB: In addition to residential projects, offices, companies and commercial spaces are also part of your portfolio. At Bianco Café, the use of marble was on purpose, with the intention that customers feel special and important. Do you think that the environments and your decoration influence the mood of the people?
JE: Yes. In the end, the colors, materials and textures create a different feeling depending on the project. That is why I always try to study projects in detail, so that there is a good energy in it and people feel comfortable.

MCFB: What cannot be missing in a space, according to Javier Escobar?
JE: Crafts and nature.

MCFB: What is the trend for next year in interior design?
JE: Biophilia Design.

MCFB: Do you have a project that is your favorite?
JE: Heartbeats, without a doubt. The last project I have created for Casa Decor 2021. It is a reflection of everything I am and everything I have been, I think there is no project that can represent me as 100% as this one.

MCFB: What would you like to do as an interior designer that you haven’t done yet?
JE: A hotel or a resort.

MCFB: Could you tell us a little about the space you present at Casa Decor Madrid? How do you think this new Casa Decor space differs from the project you created for last year’s event? What new elements can we find, for example.
JE: Heartbeats is a project that shows who I am. I have created it so that people know me and know everything that has influenced my life. In it you can show how urban art, nature, the handmade and art, and how all that can be merged, creating a very personal space.
Last year’s space “Mediterranean Vibes” followed a trend that was the Mediterranean, this year’s one does not follow any trend, it is a blank canvas that tells a story, my life.
There is no new element, all my projects are created with natural elements and crafts. It is my hallmark.
