There is a 1950’s residence in Sydney that has been recently the target of a stunning home makeover, transforming the mid-century modern beauty into a contemporary architecture wonderland. The house for a film director and his family was renovated by Luigi Rosselli Architects and the result will make you wonder why on Earth haven’t you already updated your home decor.

When the architecture firm Luigi Rosselli a lot of changes were planned for this outstanding home renovation. In the end, almost three-quarters of the original structure were demolished and replaced with an additional story added. In the façade, CNC cut steel plates in a fish scale pattern feature on the front gate and the Juliet balcony balustrade, which you can see at the end.

On the other hand, in the backyard, there’s a built-in fireplace that sits at the end of the built-in concrete bench.

Next to the modern kitchen, the designers placed a small deck to accommodate the mid-century inspired living room. In the kitchen, Carrara marble has been used for the countertop, and hardware free white and wood kitchen cabinets keep the space streamlined.

On the other side of the kitchen is a dining area, with a built-in banquette bench, inspired by Eileen Grey and her Bibendum Chair.

A simple way to add that minimalist touch to your home decor is using very simple and clean lighting designs. You can place them above your dining table or your kitchen island. The one depicted in the photo above is Ike pendant lamp by DelightFULL.

Opposite the kitchen and under the stairs is a hidden powder room with an arched door, which gives it a unique and very contemporary feeling.

On the second floor of the home are two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a study. This bedroom has tall French doors that open inwards, allowing for fresh air and plenty of light to fill the room.

The top floor of the home is where the master bedroom and bathroom are located. The master bedroom – depicted above – features black framed windows that can be opened, while deep eaves provide protection from the sun.
