Whenever we think about Dubai’s architecture, we can’t help but see Burj Khalifa, so we are going to show what else there’s in the city yet to be appreciated
Over the course of twenty years, Dubai’s landscape has transformed. Home to the world’s tallest building, a seven-star hotel, and the only man-made archipelago modeled after the seven continents, Dubai’s development has lured top contemporary architects to feed into its outdoor design frenzy. That’s we chose to show you some of Dubai buildings that will rock your socks off.

Jumeirah Beach Hotel
Jumeirah Beach Hotel opened in 1997 and it is operated by the Dubai-based hotelier Jumeirah. The hotel contains 598 rooms and suites, 19 beachfront villas, and 20 restaurants and bars. This wave-shaped hotel complements the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, which is adjacent to the hotel.
The Cayan Tower
The Cayan Tower is a luxury apartment building completed in 2013, whose architects were George J. Efstathiou and Ross Wimer, with a striking helical shape, turning 90 degrees over the course of its height. Each floor is identical in plan, but is set 1.2 degrees clockwise from the floor below, giving the tower a distinctive form by way of an innovative, efficient, repeatable structure. The twisting shape makes the building stand out from the architectural disharmony of the Dubai waterfront, which is largely composed of indistinct towers that do not speak to their location.
Atlantis, the Palm
Atlantis, The Palm is a luxury hotel resort who opened doors in 2008. The architect was design firm Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo (WATG) an international firm specializing in Luxury Hotels.
The design incorporates classical Arabian architecture in both the interior and exterior of the 23-storey hotel, with semi-precious stones, intricate fossilised shells and ‘fish’ stones included throughout. A 10 m-high glass sculpture by artist Dale Chihuly contains more than 3,000 pieces of intensely-coloured blown glass ranging from fiery oranges and reds to tranquil blues and greens, surrounded by a reflection pool. The hotel lobby’s 19 m-high arched ceilings feature 8 hand-painted murals by Spanish artist Albino Gonzalez.
Maze Tower
The Maze Tower has become an icon in Dubai’s skyline. Perfectly located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the tower is a mixed use building that offers a privileged lifestyle. There are 25 floors of prime office space located in the very heart of DIFC, and 24 floors tranquil and elegant living space.
The Dubai Frame
The Dubai Frame is situated in Zabeel Park and was carefully chosen to give visitors the best view of both old and new Dubai. The frame measures 150 metres high and 93 metres wide, the two towers are connected by a 100-square-metre bridge, which has a 25-square-metre glass panel in the middle offering a great 360 degree view.
It was designed by award-winning architect Fernando Donis, who also designed Dubai’s Porsche Design Towers, and the Dubai Renaissance Tower.
Al Warqa’a Mosque
Al Warqa’a Mosque was designed with the intention of capturing the historical premise of a mosque as a communal space for worship, it is a structure that also functions as a gathering place for the community. With the proliferation of the iconic Turkish Central Dome mosque typology in the UAE, the architects ibda design sought to return to a simpler design that is less focused on the mosque as an icon, and more as a social space.
Raffles Dubai

O-14 Tower
O-14 , a 22-story tall commercial tower perched on a two-story podium, broke ground in February 2007, and comprises over 300,000 square feet of office space for the Dubai Business Bay. O-14 is located along the extension of Dubai Creek, occupying a prominent location on the waterfront esplanade. O14 is sheathed in a forty centimeter-thick concrete shell perforated by over 1,300 openings that create a lace-like effect on the building’s façade.
The shell is not only the structure of the building, it acts as a sunscreen open to light, air, and views. A space nearly one meter deep between the shell and the main enclosure creates a so-called “chimney effect,” a phenomenon whereby hot air has room to rise and effectively cools the surface of the glass windows behind the perforated shell. This passive solar technique essentially contributes to a natural component to the cooling system for O-14, thus reducing energy consumption and costs, just one of many innovative aspects of the building’s design.
City Walk
City Walk artfully combines shopping with entertainment including stand outs such as Hub Zero, Green Planet, Mattel Play! Town, a cinema and a year round calendar of events. Families can enjoy the European-style pedestrianised boulevards, stretching several blocks from the city towards Jumeirah. And of course fashionistas can rejoice in the huge selection of local and international boutiques, arranged around excellent indoor and outdoor dining options including the swag of new hip places that form part of La Ville Hotel and Suites – such as Graze and Chival.
Roda Al Murooj Downtown Dubai
