Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) played a special and influential role in the history of\u00a0Made in Italy, he was an\u00a0architect\u00a0and\u00a0object,\u00a0furniture,\u00a0lamp\u00a0and\u00a0chair\u00a0designer\u00a0on top of anything that can be immediately useful in everyday life. Milanese to the core, he has been active throughout the second half of the\u00a0twentieth\u00a0century and he left an enormous amount of\u00a0inventions\u00a0and\u00a0designs, carefully kept by his sons in his\u00a0studio\u00a0museum in\u00a0piazza Castello.\u00a0It is The Achille Castiglioni Studio Museum by the Achille Castiglioni Foundation<\/a>\u00a0that collected the works of this extraordinary designer and the studio museum can be visited on\u00a0appointment\u00a0throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Entering this elegant apartment of the late 80\u2019s and carefully visit it, will be an exciting experience that will make you travel through the history of objects like the\u00a0Arco\u00a0and\u00a0Toio\u00a0lamps or\u00a0Flos, the\u00a0Mezzadro\u00a0and\u00a0Sella\u00a0for\u00a0Zanotta\u00a0chairs or ashtrays and mayonnaise spoons for\u00a0Alessi: all the major Italian brands have produced Achille Castiglioni\u2019s creations and continue to produce them even though they were conceived forty or fifty years ago. They are Italian and international\u00a0design\u00a0classics\u00a0which are now reproduced in the light of\u00a0new\u00a0technologies\u00a0and new\u00a0materials. In the AC studio museum, you can see the designs, projects and inspirations, mostly coming from the poor and rural world of post-war Italy, when the utility of an object and its durability over time could make a difference in people\u2019s lives; all topped off with an unusual irony and a Milanese taste for beauty.<\/p>\n

Every year the Achille Castiglioni Foundation exhibits different furnishing objects in the headquarters of piazza Castello: this year the temporary exhibition is entitled \u201cLa dimensione domestica\u201d (\u201cThe domestic dimension\u201d) and reproduces the homey atmosphere created by Castiglioni in 1957 for the design exhibition at\u00a0Villa Olmo<\/a>\u00a0in Como. It is amazing to see how current this reproduction is, as the furnishings are still desirable, the chair, the table, and how much we would like to have them in our living room.<\/p>\n

The common denominator of Achille Castiglioni\u2019s work is the\u00a0idea, the\u00a0simplicity, the\u00a0beauty\u00a0and the irony: that half-smile that unknowingly comes to us when we are faced with a flash of\u00a0genius.\u00a0Before redecorating your home or office take a trip to the Achille Castiglioni Foundation and you will realise the study effort behind the simplest things, such as a light bulb switch. Yeah, because Achille Castiglioni also created the\u00a0switches\u00a0and you probably use one every day before going to sleep without knowing that it is his creation.<\/p>\n
