Recently it was announced the great winner of the Pritzker<\/em><\/strong> 2017, the most important architecture award in the world: the Catalan office RCR Arquitectes.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1988 in the city of Olot, Spain by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, RCR Arquitectes has been recognized for several awards over almost 30 years of activities, among them the Catalan National Prize for Culture in Architecture (2005) and the French Chevalier de l\u2019Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2008 and 2014) and Gold Medal by the Acad\u00e9mie d\u2019Architecture (2015).<\/p>\n

In addition, Aranda, Pigem and Vilalta are Honorary Members of the American Institute of Architecture \u2013 AIA (2010) and International Members of the Royal Institute of British Architects \u2013 RIBA (2012). Although most of the office\u2019s works are located in the Catalonian region, the architects have already signed projects in France and Belgium.<\/p>\n

According to the architects, the office won a projection when it won an ideas competition to create the Punta Aldea Lighthouse in 1989. In addition to Catalan influences, RCR also bases its works on Alvar Aalto, Richard Serra, Pierre Soulages and the studio Japanese SANAA.<\/p>\n

In 2008, the trio created the RCR Lab A and, in 2013, the RCR Bunka Foundation. The two institutions work together with the office to maintain their architectural goals. In 2015, the office won an exhibition at the Palau Robert in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bwhich addressed the main themes of his works: Mediation with landscape, Space, The presence of time, Public and social function, Structure and materiality, The system, and Dematerialization.<\/p>\n

The Pritzker Prize for Architecture was created in 1979 by the American entrepreneur Jay A. Pritzker and his wife Cindy. Dubbed the \u201cNobel of Architecture,\u201d it takes place at an annual ceremony that honors professionals whose works demonstrate a combination of talent, vision and commitment, contributing significantly to humanity and urbanism.<\/p>\n

The Pritzker 2017 is the 39th edition of the award. The RCR is the second winner of Spanish origin, being the first Rafael Moneo (1996). Already Carme Pigem became the third woman to be recognized, after Zaha Hadid (2004) and Kazuyo Sejima, of SANAA (2010).<\/p>\n

The trio will receive $ 100,000 and a bronze medal at the ceremony to be held on May 20 in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
