Sherwin-Williams is redefining the concept of Color of the Year, unveiling not just one but nine Colors of the Year, collectively known as the Color Capsule of the Year. Let\u2019s take a look at Sherwin-William\u2019s 2025 color of the year<\/span><\/em><\/strong> (oops, we mean colors!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The palette includes three browns: Clove,<\/strong> a deep dark chocolate; Grounded<\/strong>, a warm, caf\u00e9 au lait; and Malabar<\/strong>, a creamy tan. Additionally, there are two whites: White Snow<\/strong>, a bright white, and Sunbleached<\/strong>, an off-white. \u201cThese whites act as a great combination color to the browns, creating a quiet luxury feel,\u201d Wadden explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also pops of color, such as Chartreuse<\/strong>, a yellow-green that Wadden describes as omnipresent in recent seasons. \u201cIt has been everywhere for the last five seasons,\u201d she adds. \u201cWe\u2019re seeing it on the runways and on the streets.\u201d For home decor, Wadden recommends using Chartreuse in small doses as an accent color. It pairs well with Bosc Pear<\/strong>, a rich gold that is also gaining popularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally, the Sherwin-Williams team also pulled in some cooler colors, including Rain Cloud<\/strong>, a restrained, muted teal that Wadden defines as \u201ca restrained, muted spin on a teal classic.\u201d This color choice reflects the growing trend towards calming, serene interiors. Additionally, Mauve Finery<\/strong>, a soft purple, is included in the palette. Wadden predicts that purple will be a prominent color in 2025, adding a touch of luxury and sophistication to home decor. This inclusion aligns with the increasing popularity of jewel tones and vintage-inspired aesthetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the palette balances brightness and subtlety, the deeper, richer tones signal a shift towards more muted colors. This is especially evident when compared to the 2024 Color of the Year, a soft, whisper blue. In 2025, Sherwin-Williams has partnered with floral design company East Olivia to showcase the nine hues in an elaborate bouquet, emphasizing the maturity and sophistication of this year\u2019s color palette.<\/p>\n\n\n

Indeed, the paint company\u2019s choice to release a nine-color collection reflects a rising interest in thinking about color dualistically. Following the 2023 trend of color drenching, where a single color saturates an entire room, double drenching involves using two or more colors in a space. \u201cThat\u2019s definitely part of the conversation we\u2019re having,\u201d Wadden says. \u201cWhether it\u2019s using bright jewel tones or more restrained hues together, people are still excited about taking a risk and trying something new.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the paint brand says their divergence from the standard one-color rollout is in celebration of their 15th anniversary of the COTY initiative, Wadden suggests that it might become a new norm. \u201cIt might stick,\u201d she says. \u201cWho knows, maybe mid-next year, I\u2019ll give you a call and say, \u2018It\u2019s nine or nothing now!'\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
