Designed by\u00a0Kelly Wearstler<\/em><\/strong>, the\u00a0Santa Monica Proper Hotel<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>is a beachfront\u00a0hotel<\/strong>\u00a0with a distinct sense of place. The climate, history and iconography of the\u00a0city<\/strong>\u00a0are the inspiration for the\u00a0hotel<\/strong>\u2018s identity and inherent narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0reception area<\/strong>\u00a0features\u00a0artful interpretations<\/strong>\u00a0of iconic coastal elements, such as a hand-carved\u00a0desk<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0with lines reminiscent of a seashell and a sand-soaked gesso canvas. The recycled oak hardwood floor has an octagonal\u00a0pattern<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0inspired by the bird\u2019s-eye view of a parasol, while a bronze chain-link sculpture with a neon tube stands 9 feet tall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelly Wearstler\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>drew inspiration from\u00a0Santa Monica<\/strong>\u2018s classic history in\u00a0designing<\/strong>\u00a0the hotel<\/strong><\/a>, both visually and culturally, to emphasize a\u00a0modern design<\/a><\/strong>. The public spaces feature\u00a0eye-catching<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0objects sourced from collaborations with\u00a0L.A.\u00a0artisans<\/strong>\u00a0for original\u00a0artwork<\/strong>\u00a0and monolithic installations, including Ben Medansky, Morgan Peck, Tanya Aguiniga, Len Klikunas and Bradley Duncan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American interior designer\u00a0Kelly Wearstler<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0scoured\u00a0vintage stores<\/strong>\u00a0to find the\u00a0eclectic furniture<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that adorns the\u00a0living room-style<\/a>\u00a0lobby<\/strong>\u00a0of this\u00a0hotel<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0Santa Monica<\/strong>,\u00a0California<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Santa Monica\u00a0Proper<\/strong>\u00a0features 271 guest suites spread across the\u00a0landmark building<\/strong>\u00a0and new construction.\u00a0Wearstler<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0chose floral wallpaper and deeper hues for the\u00a0rooms<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the existing building and a muted,\u00a0neutral color palette<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for the\u00a0rooms<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the addition.\u00a0The textiles and wall coverings are from the\u00a0designer<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s own collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
