Le Grand Jardin<\/strong>\u00a0is a private estate\u00a0in the heart of the historic Stellenbosch<\/strong>\u00a0(est.1679) Winelands<\/strong>. It is the signature residence of\u00a0Wonderland Escapes<\/strong>\u00a0nad it\u2019s 50 km away from the city of Cape Town. Le Grand Jardin was a wedding gift for the daughter of the neighbouring estate and was designed by a student of\u00a0Sir Herbert Baker<\/strong>\u2013 the most\u00a0notable architect<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0working in South Africa in the 1900s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rooted in enchanting environments \u2013 from the\u00a0Cape and Argentinean Winelands<\/strong>\u00a0to the\u00a0Swiss Alps<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Africa\u2019s pristine southern coastline<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 it offers a\u00a0sense of space and wonder<\/strong>,<\/a> where bold mountain peaks of the Helderberg in the heart of the colour-changing vineyards, gentle rolling waves, secret gardens, glistening bodies of water and golden sunsets are gifts we delight in sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0inspiration<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>behind this project draws on the\u00a0restorative qualities of the expansive garden<\/strong>\u00a0and surrounding vineyards. The garden served as an inspiration for the\u00a0home\u2019s interior aesthetic<\/a><\/strong>. The walls of the double-volume entrance hall, covered in De Gournay\u00a0\u2018Amazonia\u2019 wallpaper<\/a><\/strong>, act as an exuberant welcome and\u00a0invitation to enjoy the garden<\/strong>\u00a0that offers an\u00a0intimate private world of escape<\/strong>. Artistry exists in the interplay of\u00a0timeless heirlooms<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0sensual textures<\/strong>\u00a0of copper, leather, and velvet, set against the playful use of colour and craft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n \"le<\/a>\n\n\n\n

The manor house<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0offers a more stately option with 3 en-suite bedrooms and extensive entertainment areas, including the formal dining room, sexy blue gin bar, tasting room\/cellar, drawing room\/library\/study, and media room. The pool pavilion with 3 en-suite bedrooms opens onto the solar-heated pool area with a\u00a0summer room<\/strong>.<\/a> When we walk through the home, the design immediately\u00a0evokes memory with the hoots of night owls<\/strong>, nostalgic aromas of home-baked bread in the kitchen, and roses in the garden. Besides, the main en suite bedroom offers a wild celebration of\u00a0Henri Rousseau\u2019s jungle scenes<\/strong>, crafted by\u00a0African Sketchbook<\/strong>, an enterprise working with self-taught artists from the surrounding townships. The In\u00a0Full Bloom suite<\/strong>\u00a0showcases a wall of giant blooms from\u00a0Cara Saven<\/strong>\u00a0Wall Design\u2019s\u00a0\u2018She\u2019s No Wallflower\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other designs include\u00a0the green and blue pomegranates of \u2018Carnival<\/a>\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Christopher Farr<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0bright \u2018Portofino\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0range by\u00a0Thibaut<\/strong>, while a sense of play is illustrated in\u00a0Ardmore\u2019s Savuti design<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0Cole & Son<\/strong>, which brings\u00a0monkeys, chameleons and birds<\/strong>\u00a0inside the\u00a0Into the Wild garden suite<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
