Alice in Wonderland<\/em>\u00a0gave the inspiration\u00a0Philippe Starck<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0when designing this\u00a0luxury hotel.<\/strong>\u00a0The Delano in South Beach\u00a0<\/strong>opened doors in 1995, and ever since its style is all about the\u00a0playful\u00a0<\/strong>ambiance<\/a> that borders on the surreal. It features unique pieces, such as the\u00a0oversized Starck couch<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and crystal piano in the lobby, the\u00a0gold Leda chair<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0sculpted with high-heeled feet by\u00a0Salvador Dal\u00ed,<\/strong>\u00a0and the wooden Calvet armchair by\u00a0Antoni Gaud\u00ed!\u00a0<\/strong>On the other side, the rooms show a monochromatic white-on-white scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n \"luxury<\/a>\n\n\n\n

Arne Jacobsen<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is the name behind this\u00a0luxury hotel,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>where not a single detail wasn\u2019t carefully thought out! Opened in 1960,\u00a0The Royal Copenhagen Hotel<\/strong>\u00a0is located in the heart of\u00a0Copenhagen\u00a0<\/strong>and is Jacobsen\u2019s total work of art, for which he designed everything right down to the silverware in the\u00a0restaurant<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nowadays you can find\u00a0boutique hotels<\/strong>\u00a0a bit of everywhere, but\u00a0Morgans Hotel in New York City\u00a0<\/strong>started this\u00a0trend\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>when it opened in 1984, giving the first step for small,\u00a0design-forward hotels<\/strong>\u00a0in popular urban neighborhoods to open their own doors! Imagined by\u00a0Ian Schrager<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Steve Rubell,<\/strong>\u00a0who chose\u00a0French designer Andr\u00e9e Putman<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for the interiors, Morgans epitomized\u00a0elegance\u00a0<\/strong>with a touch of the\u00a0unconventional<\/strong><\/a>! The hotel was actually closed in 2017 and was turned into small apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n \"luxury<\/a>\n\n\n\n

The Greenbrier by Dorothy Draper<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dorothy Draper<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0had a major influence in\u00a0hotels\u00a0<\/strong>around the U.S, but the interior designer\u2019s work at the\u00a0Greenbrier in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia\u00a0<\/strong>is just mesmerizing! The\u00a0resort<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>opened in 1778, but became an icon of great design<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>when Draper renovated it in 1947 in her signature\u00a0modern baroque style<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>characterized by wide stripes, floral chintz, splashy colors, and black-and-white checkerboard floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Terrace Plaza Hotel by SOM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Terrace Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati\u00a0<\/strong>was America\u2019s first\u00a0new hotel<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to be built\u00a0after World War II<\/strong>, in 1948, and the emerging firm of\u00a0Skidmore<\/strong>, Owings & Merrill was in charge of the design. Natalie DeBlois led this project and used the hotel as a way to\u00a0introduce modernism to the U.S.<\/strong>, creating a\u00a0landmark\u00a0<\/strong>in the International Style and decorating the interiors with\u00a0modern art<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>by Joan Mir\u00f3, Alexander Calder, Saul Steinberg, and Jim Davis. Despite setting the\u00a0standard\u00a0<\/strong>for modern conveniences, the hotel fell into\u00a0disrepair\u00a0<\/strong>and was almost abandoned. It\u2019s on the National Trust for Historic Preservation\u2019s list of the\u00a011 Most Endangered Places for 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Beverly Hills Hotel by Paul R. Williams<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Beverly Hills Hotel<\/strong>, known as The Pink Lady, opened his doors in 1912, but was in the 1940s that it gained the\u00a0iconic California look<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>that made him\u00a0famous\u00a0<\/strong>until today.\u00a0The\u00a0architect Paul R. Williams<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>had a serious influence on the architectural aesthetic of Los Angeles, and was hired in 1941 to refresh the\u00a0lobby<\/a><\/strong>, which he covered in CW Stockwell\u2019s Martinique\u00a0banana leaf wallpaper\u00a0by Don Loper.
