Notebooks, postcards, and books showcase the best of midcentury<\/strong><\/em> design in a new set from Thames & Hudson.<\/p>\n

Some people send postcards because they\u2019re on vacation. Others, like me,\u00a0wish<\/em> they could send a postcard every time they see an expensive piece of mid-century modern design that is otherwise outside their budget: an original Eames chair, perhaps, or one of Dieter Rams\u2019s\u00a0classic side tables.<\/p>\n

Thames & Hudson\u2014sellers of some of the most\u00a0beautifully\u00a0designed\u00a0books\u00a0around\u2014and graphic design studio Here Design have just unveiled\u00a0Midcentury Modern, a new postcard-cum-notebook-cum quartet of reference books that pay homage to the titans of 20th-century design: Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Dieter Rams, Eileen Gray, and more.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Midcentury Modern\u00a0series portrays each design as a profile, with a minimalist, Herman Miller-like line drawing. The set favors the pastels of the era, including mustard yellows and pale turquoises, while the illustrations are in black-and-white, revealing the lines and contours of each given piece.<\/p>\n

The reference books are split between themes: \u201cTables and Storage,\u201d \u201cProduct and Industrial Design,\u201d \u201cLighting,\u201d and \u201cChairs.\u201d Each book contains text by Frances Amber, a guest editor at\u00a0Mid-century Magazine, while the illustrations drill down into details of each piece.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Midcentury Modern\u00a0postcards,\u00a0books, and\u00a0notebooks\u00a0are out since May, and they are available from $14.95 to $24.95.<\/p>\n
