\"Modern<\/a><\/p>\n

Kitchen designer Susan Serra<\/a> embarked on a deeply personal project when she set to update her own home kitchen, a multigenerational gathering spot for a family that loves to cook. Combining elements from her Danish background and coastal setting on Long Island, the resulting combination of colors and style influences were initially inspired, she says, by a Swedish painting that she and her husband purchased to commemorate their 40th anniversary, which sits above the light gray cabinetry from Cabico (top right).<\/p>\n

\"Modern<\/a><\/p>\n

Susan installed new Dinesen oak flooring throughout, finished in matte white oil, in the Scandinavian tradition. She also replaced two curved-top windows with one large, rectangular picture frame window to emphasize the light and coastal scenery. The vintage handwoven Swedish rugs add warmth to the overal palette of cool blue and pale neutral tones.<\/p>\n

A vintage mahogany cabinet by Borge Mogensen<\/a>, covered with a floral wallpaper by Josef Frank, adds a dose of cheerful color to the adjacent dining area.<\/p>\n

Agate drawer pulls and a backplash of Cosentino\u2019s Silestone Albedo pair with a Gaggenau full-surface induction cooktop. The walls throughout were painted in White Tie from Farrow & Ball.<\/p>\n

\"Modern<\/a><\/p>\n

A sectional sofa raised to dining height furnishes the dining area, along with vintage Hans Wegner chairs upholstered in ostrich leather. Serra custom-made the table, using Cosentino\u2019s Dekton x-Gloss Halo. The rug is from Scandinavian Made.<\/p>\n

\"Modern<\/a><\/p>\n

A mix of vintage ceramics and artworks soften the minimal, top-of-the-line appliances. Susan sourced the ovens from Gaggenau<\/a>, and the Dekton Borea countertops from Cosentino<\/a>. The Kohler sink is paired with a touchless faucet, which is easier on the hands for the whole family.<\/p>\n
