From the 22nd until 24th of May 2018, Clerkenwell Design Week returns for its ninth edition, hosting the best in the design world.<\/h1>\n

This May will see the ninth edition of Clerkenwell Design Week<\/span><\/strong><\/em> (CDW) take place from May 22-24th 2018. As the annual focus for London\u2019s leading design district, the festival programme has been created to reflect the exceptional nature of this vibrant London area.<\/p>\n

Each year, Clerkenwell Design Week<\/strong><\/em><\/span> displays new projects and commissioned installations located within high profile spaces across Clerkenwell. Working with leading names in design, engineering and architecture, these projects aim to bring spectacle and energy to the district whilst pushing the boundaries of design concepts, process and material capabilities. This year, sustainability is a key theme with several participants and projects addressing this trend.<\/p>\n

Pipe Line<\/span><\/h3>\n

Lou Corio Randall showcases his new approach to street furniture with this playful piece that\u00a0includes bike racks and benches, and will be found in all corners of Clerkenwell. Proving that a single line can portray any shape, he uses the design week\u2019s signature pink hue to form a silhouette out of a single line of steel. \u2018I wanted to move away from the mundane archetype of street furniture and address the need for bike storage,\u2019 Randall says.<\/p>\n

Your Tote Counts<\/span><\/h3>\n

Chelsea College of Art working alongside\u00a0Print Club London, in partnership with CDW<\/span><\/strong>, is addressing the issue of a surplus of cotton tote bags replacing unsustainable plastic bags. A Screen Press installation will be situated in the Garden of St. James<\/span><\/strong>, where visitors can bring unwanted totes to be customised with designs created by the students to give them a new life, with proceeds going to Maggie\u2019s Centre, while an exhibition at Design Fields will display a collection of favourite tote bags, chosen by a selection of designers and design writers.<\/p>\n

QLOCKTWO from Biegert & Funk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Platform<\/span><\/h3>\n

Hosted within the subterranean depths of The House of Detention, Platform showcases exciting up and-coming design talent in the historic surroundings of this former remand prison. This is a rare opportunity for the public to explore part of London\u2019s infamous history. Exhibitors here include Arte&Stili<\/strong><\/span> who specialise in bespoke handmade ceramic tiles, artefacts and crockery sets from Italy\u2019s Amalfi Coast; Claire Potter Design<\/span><\/strong>, specialising in sustainable solutions for interior architecture and product based projects; and QLOCKTWO<\/strong><\/span> from Biegert & Funk, a unique luxury product which displays the time with a typographical display, combining the moment with written words, cleverly made to communicate the time in over 20 languages giving your customers the ability to make a bold statement or compliment their interiors.<\/p>\n

Arte, Metal X Signum Collection, Classo Pattern<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Detail<\/span><\/h3>\n

Detail can be found within the Garden & Crypt of the Order of St John. Detail reflects principles of fine craftsmanship and high glamour, showcasing the best and most prestigious names in the world of luxury interiors who will be exhibiting throughout the venues majestic Church, Crypt and Cloister garden.
\nThis year at Detail, Arte<\/span> <\/strong>wallcoverings will show several new collections. Metal X Signum<\/span>, represents wallcovering made of real metal foil with an oxidised effect and elegant prints. Focus<\/span> is a collection of wallpaper with a deep and natural-looking relief that creates a 3D effect, while Curiosa<\/span> is all about big designs with worldly influences. Last but not least, Takara<\/span> wallcoverings are made of abundant materials like soft suede, paper weave and embroidered chinoiserie.<\/p>\n

Bert Frank, Flagon Chandelier<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Light<\/span><\/h3>\n

New for 2018 is an exciting new exhibition dedicated to light. Fabric, a former cold-store turned nightclub, will host within its brick vaults an exhibition of top international lighting brands showing the latest collections, cutting edge and innovative new products and presenting spectacular standalonelighting installations. Exhibitors include Bert Frank<\/span><\/strong> which draws influence from the design codes of the \u2018mid-century<\/span><\/strong>\u2019 era but with a modern twist. Bert Frank\u2019s striking range of luxury lighting is designed and made exclusively in the UK and has already won a string of industry awards. Rich Bril<\/span>liant<\/span> Willing<\/span><\/strong> is a Brooklyn-based studio that designs and manufactures LED fixtures for hospitality, workplace, and residential projects while Czech lighting company Brokis<\/span><\/strong>, producers of exquisite hand blown Bohemian glass lighting for over 200 years, will show a selection of its glass pendant, table, floor and wall lighting.<\/p>\n
