This September, Maison & Objet will be celebrating the talent of Ramy Fischler.<\/h2>\n

With every new edition, Maison et Objet\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>honors one of the most outstanding names in industrial and interior design worldwide. This time, the chosen one was\u00a0Ramy Fischler<\/em>, whose work is strongly influenced by cinema.<\/p>\n

Elected as Designer of the Year by Maison et Objet in September 2018<\/strong>, Ramy Fischler<\/span><\/a> started his studies at\u00a0ENSCI<\/span>-Les Ateliers in Paris, graduating in 2004, where he developed a taste for experimentation, that was increased\u00a0while he worked alongside Patrick Jouin.<\/p>\n

In 2011, the elected designer of the year opened his first studio, where he started to develop his own\u00a0approach to design: rather than focusing on the formal aspects of space or product design, Ramy Fischler prefers to question the value of function, anticipating tomorrow\u2019s behaviors, defining the reason and use of each project and visualizing the environment where a piece would be effective.<\/p>\n

To this\u00a0designer, design must make sense, and he\u2019s just as comfortable working on practical projects as he is on more conceptual ones.<\/p>\n

As his work is\u00a0strongly influenced by cinema<\/strong>, fiction and collaborative work are the twin pillars of his process. The designer chosen by Maison & Objet Paris even started\u00a0a research investigation,\u00a0when he was a professor at the Le Fresnoy \u2013 National Studio for Contemporary Arts, with a project entitled L\u2019Image \u00c9claire, which created a connection between image and cinema.<\/p>\n

His interior design projects<\/strong> for private residences and restaurants regularly give him the opportunity to design furniture, which he produces himself and shows in galleries. The designer of the year\u00a0also creates hybrid objects<\/strong> that illustrate his capacity to blur the boundaries between disciplines.<\/p>\n

From office design to L\u2019Op\u00e9ra Comique<\/h3>\n

Ramy Fischler is currently focusing on his work as a scenographer for the opera, which includes the set design<\/strong> for a version of Hamlet<\/strong> directed by Cyril Teste, expected to debut in December at L\u2019Op\u00e9ra Comique in Paris. He is also working on an exhibition titled L\u2019Intelligence de la Main<\/em> for the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, as part of the Homo Faber exhibition<\/strong>, which explores the notion of know-how, opening in September at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A designer turned entrepreneur, Fischler has also launched a startup initiative to design a connected refrigerator that accepts cashless payments.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The designer of the year elected by the this Paris interior design show<\/strong> is a free spirit, who gladly introduces design in fields and dimensions where it appears out of place.<\/p>\n

For instance, for the Philanthro -Lab [image above], one of the projects short-listed for the R\u00e9inventer Paris 1 contest<\/em>, the designer collaborated with Compagnie de Phalsbourg<\/strong> and architecture studio Perrot & Richard<\/strong> to define a programme, anticipate needs and create the project\u2019s layout. Twitter France has also commissioned him to investigate the many ways in which work environments are changing, question the value of information and apply his findings to space planning and office design.<\/p>\n

Among Ramy Fischler\u2019s latest projects is a commission for Refettorio Paris<\/strong> [image above], a soup kitchen for the homeless and refugees, initiated by Italy\u2019s most prominent chef, Massimo Bottura and established inside the Foyer de la Madeleine.<\/p>\n

Maison et Objet\u2019s Designer of the Year<\/strong> is collaborating with Nicola Delon \u2013 founder of studio Encore Heureux \u2013 to create bespoke d\u00e9cor<\/strong> made from recycled building materials. Just a stone\u2019s throw away, he has recently started two new projects on the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es<\/strong>: a palace hotel and a new concept of film theater.<\/p>\n

For the upcoming edition of Maison & Objet<\/strong>, Ramy Fischler has chosen to spotlight the diversity of his studio\u2019s activities and projects from day 0ne, offering visitors a chance to grasp his visionary and holistic approach.<\/p>\n
