Jaime Jurado needs no introduction. The interior designer has been making waves in the design field, and after presenting his one-of-a-kind exhibition at Casa Décor Madrid, we decided to talk with him to know more about his unique signature style and next projects!
Inspirations Blog: Jaime, besides being an interior designer, you are a visual artist. Do you think this gives you a certain advantage in the process of creating your projects?
Jaime Jurado: I think so, because you get fully involved in the project, we not only create the project but also the pieces and product that will be placed in each room.
IB: At the age of 12, you discovered your passion for art. How did you figure it out?
JJ: I always had concerns, I loved drawing, as well as everything related to the arts. What professionals inspire you? In the world of interior design I really like Lázaro Rosa Violan and Luis Puerta, in the visual arts Justin Mortimer and Michael Borremans.
IB: You are known for working with enormous wealth in terms of aesthetic quality in your works. How do you manage to combine functionality and aesthetics in your projects?
JJ: We always start from the functional, from there in the studio there is always a commitment to ART, CRAFTSMANSHIP and DESIGN, a continuous search for beauty, based on what we do is timeless and lasts over time.
IB: According to Jaime Jurado, what cannot be missing in a design project?
JJ:F or me, a space cannot lack balanced lighting, pieces of art, and above all a sculpture that gives it character.
IB: What is the trend for next year in interior design?
JJ: There is a commitment to the natural, to the curved, to the organic pieces, to the craftsmanship that is the new luxury, to everything handmade in general. We try to keep our line in a palette of neutral tones that is totally timeless.
IB: Do you have a project that is your favorite?
JJ: All our projects have our stamp, we seek a minimalist, warm and relaxing look in a serene and balanced environment. But yes, there is one that we did a few years ago of a carnage in which we projected a staging that was very interesting.
IB: What would you like to do as an interior designer that you haven’t done yet?
JJ: A church. The art, the lighting, the staging, would be something very different, providing an elegant contemporary style, but always respecting what is represented.
IB: Could you tell us a bit about the space you presented at Casa Decor Madrid? How do you think this new Casa Decor space differs from other projects that you have created in previous years (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) What new elements can we find, for example?
JJ: This year together with Mónica Bartolessis we project a space dedicated to sustainability, it is also larger and that makes everything more visible, we believe that it is very balanced in all concepts, in which we have been very aware of using natural materials, in a contemporary language seeking a minimalist look, with the simplicity of the Mediterranean essence.
