This first edition took place in the 20th and 21st of June in Rio Tinto, Gondomar, and the main focus was to bring a new perspective upon the luxury design industry as a player with a crucial role in the growth and elevation of Craftsmanship.
It gathered master artisans, makers and thinkers, big names of the design world and brands. Creative minds all together in a creative world.
Craftsmanship Live Showcase
The live showcase that happened during the two days of the event brought together dozens of master artisans, introducing us to the arts and crafts techniques that transform a paper design into a real and unique work of art. These traditional arts & crafts of Portugal such as filigree, azulejo, gilding, chiseling, carving, upholstery, embroidery and many others, were promoted in a truthful and powerful ambience, creating a connection between the audience and the artisans.
1st Panel – The value of Craftsmanship For the luxury World
The first of three amazing panels, that opened this event, aimed at discussing real case studies that translate the meaning of exclusivity and authenticity and the relation between luxury goods & design and the traditional arts or ancient crafts. This panel had the contribution of Amandio Pereira, CEO of the Covet Group; Nicole Segundo, Representative/Network Developer to Portugal for the Michaelangelo Foundation; Fátima Santos, General Secretary of the AORP; Luis Onofre, entrepreneur, shoemaker and CEO of the Luis Onofre brand; and António Moura, business developer.
2nd Panel – Design as Driving Force of Local Craftsmanship
The 2nd day of Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit started with a stunning panel about the origins of craftsmanship and it’s connection with the design industry. This gave us a closer look into the rise of the Designer-Maker, a journey from the past towards a new cultural progress to promote creativity and innovation, while respecting traditions and safeguarding heritage.
3rd Panel – Luxury Branding: Behind the Scenes Story
This final panel debated the connection between the heritage techniques and its usage for the most recent marketing campaigns of leading luxury business brands. “What makes a Luxury Brand and how do you create one?” was the focal point of this third panel moderated by Mónica Seabra-Mendes, the Luxury Management Program Coordinator of Universidade Católica, and had the participation of Marco Costa, COO and Creative Director of Boca do Lobo; Jorge Martins, founder of RomBoats; Carlos Santos, CEO and Creative Director of Santos Shoes; and Carla Graça, Marketing Manager of Vista Alegre.
