To start the article, we will show you some Before Photos. It was not a bad house, but it was not showing all the glory it could. The structure was good but it was cramped and dated, so the homeowner chose to live in the house for some time to really see what needed to be changed.
Now that you saw the before, prepare yourself to get fascinated by the after photos:
With strict building rules, they weren’t allowed to extend the home’s footprint and instead found more square footage in the original crawl space just under the upper level.
The residence has three levels, and it was made an extension of the lower level to a laundry room and a guest bathroom without increasing the footprint.
The house had no insulation so they sprayed a rigid foam insulation on from the roof side and then coated it with a white reflective coating. The windows were also upgraded, some of which are operable allowing for passive cooling and venting.
The fantastic interior was designed by Martha Mulholland, who tried to select classic and modern furnishings, and that in our opinion ended up working pretty well.
A wall of windows was installed to create some outdoor views, including views of the bridge’s gothic architecture.
The master bedroom rests behind a glass wall as well, which allows natural light to enter while offering views of the amazing exterior. Since a bedroom needs some privacy, it was also included a curtain that closes when needed.
This project is an amazing example of what to do to create an amazing modern home with a mid-century twist.
