Brussels-based design gallery victor hunt debuts Tomás Alonso’s ‘contemporary salon’ during the salon art+design fair in new york, following which it will be recreated at design Miami/ 2016. aiming to rival the timeless aesthetic and compliment the quality of the great design masters, the presentation is a foretaste of the upcoming Vaalbeek residence — an in-depth refurbishment and redesign of a modest forest edge house in Belgium.

In his work, spanish designer tomas alonso combines an elegant functionality that transforms simple elements into contemporary design icons. in the ‘vaalbeek project’, he has completely redesigned the interiors and has lifted its objects in order to revive the splendor of the historic property. his approach is that of applying his working method based on understanding and deconstructing all elements that compose the space into its basic units. he then rearranges them into clean into clean and elegant solutions.

Victor Hunt Designart Dealer recently unveiled the Vaalbeek Project, a contemporary salon space designed by Tomás Alonso. The interior space was created as an early peek into a renovation of a house in Belgium that Alonso is working on, where he aims to prove that you can bring a modern feel to an historic space. These unique pieces of furniture and furnishings were designed to bridge the gap and to complement the 20th century home they’ll fill. The rest of the Vaalbeek Project will be released in the Spring of 2017.

‘I try to use material’s properties as an intrinsic part of the object, so that the material, combined with the way it is manipulated, comes the shape of the object,’ comments alonso. the ‘contemporary salon’ is a small example of the designer’s aesthetic and view, where all of the objects have been designed by him and produced to the highest standards translated to a contemporary identity. ranging from acclaimed spanish wool rug producers to italian manufacturers and belgian craftsmen.
