RobitailleCurtis<\/strong> was hired to assist a young doctor and his family with the modernization of a home that had been owner occupied for over 40 years.\u00a0The clients wanted to rejuvenate this mid-century modern house<\/em><\/strong>, which featured outdated finishes and a \u201ccompartmentalised living experience\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Hampstead House, which belongs to a young doctor and his family, is located in the affluent Hampstead neighbourhood in\u00a0Montreal.<\/p>\n

A vintage 1960\u2019s property, the existing house was divided into a series of small rooms with a decor from another era. The clients wanted to freshen up the look & feel of their new home and granted RobitailleCurtis full-license to re-imagine how best to transform the house into a home designed for a thriving modern family.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Overhead, the team installed globe-shaped lighting fixtures with\u00a0brass\u00a0accents that were handmade by the client, who managed to squeeze in time for the undertaking despite being a busy doctor with two kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was convinced he could make a nice fixture for less than he was seeing in the showroom,\u201d said the architect. \u201cHe was right!\u201d<\/p>\n

\"AThe team\u2019s first instincts was to open the spaces to one another to create a less compartmentalized living experience. They demolished walls separating the kitchen and dining room, as well as walls between the living room and den. Large areas of new modern glazing were introduced to bring daylight into the home and to connect the main living areas to the outdoors and to one another.<\/p>\n

While the project is ongoing, the team has completed the first phase \u2013\u00a0an overhauled kitchen. Walls separating the kitchen and dining room were demolished, combining the kitchen and dining experience into one large room a generous space was created where the family can easily interact or entertain in a modern space that is open and inviting resulting in an open, rectangular space. Large glass doors on one side open onto a new south-facing terrace.<\/p>\n

\"AAll of the kitchen cabinetry was designed by RobitailleCurtis<\/strong>. The face-frame cabinets were finished in a smoky blue-grey color, which is paired with Carrara marble countertops and white-tinted ash floors.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"AIn addition to the kitchen, the architect has completed work on the home\u2019s\u00a0stairway, located just outside of the kitchen. New treads and risers, along with a custom-built handrail, were installed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe wood handrail is ash and is stained to match the floors,\u201d the team said. \u201cThe treads are ash to match the new floors, and the risers are painted white to go with the clean, crisp, modern redesign.\u201d<\/p>\n
