Every year, a renowned architect or architecture firm is chosen to create a unique design for the Serpentine Galleries in London. This year, it was Frida Escobedo\u2019s turn.<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re a design and architecture aficionado much like ourselves, you know all about the Serpentine Galleries in London. If you do, then you know every year they host a temporary exhibition \u2013 the Serpentine Pavillion \u2013 that is designed and built by a renowned architecture from around the world. Serpentine Pavilion 2018<\/strong><\/em> will be all about Frida Escobedo, the youngest architect to tackle on this project, and the first solo woman to do so after Zaha Hadid\u2019s inaugural commission back in 2000.<\/p>\n

The 18th architecture to design the Serpentine Pavilion, Mexican architect Frida Escobedo is also the first woman to do so since the late Zaha Hadid designed the first pavilion in 2000. Escobedo designed a courtyard that is enclosed by dark latticed walls made from cement. The architect wanted this to be a sort of play on\u00a0celosia<\/em>, a feature you will currently find in Mexican architecture that allows for a small breeze to go through the building\u2019s walls.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the Serpentine Pavilion, we have added the materials of light and shadow, reflection and refraction, turning the building into a timepiece that charts the passage of the day.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The small perforations you see throughout the building allows for the passerby to see inside the building, as well as outside. There is also a curving canopy that reflects the building and the pool beneath.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy design for the Serpentine Pavilion 2018 is a meeting of material and historical inspirations inseparable from the city of London itself and an idea which has been central to our practice from the beginning: the expression of time in architecture through the inventive use of everyday materials and simple forms,\u201d said Frida Escobedo to Dezeen.<\/p>\n

You can visit the Serpentine Pavilion at the London\u2019s Kensington Gardens from 15 June to 7 October 2018. There will also be a cafe, and a programme comprising art, architecture, music, film, and dance events.<\/h6>\n

Born in 1979, Frida Escobedo<\/span><\/a> set up her architecture practice back in 2006 in Mexico\u2019s capital, Mexico City. She has since been working on several projects of her own, a little bit all over the world. Here is a selection of some of our favorite projects of her.<\/p>\n
