Until then, we will be talking about our Oscars 2018<\/strong><\/em><\/span> favorites and how their amazing production design teams created worlds we all wouldn\u2019t mind stepping into. We are going to start with the thrilling, seducing, and captivating production design<\/strong><\/em><\/span> of\u00a0Call Me by Your Name<\/em>, so without further ado\u2026<\/p>\n

The coming of age movie that is making everyone fall in love with its amazing cast, and embrace life in a different way could only become a reality thanks to the team that was working on the backstage all along.<\/p>\n

Aside from two amazing photography<\/strong> <\/span>and cinematography<\/strong> <\/span>teams, we can\u2019t help but thank the production design<\/strong><\/em><\/span> team and its head designer, who were responsible for creating the idylic sets of a 1980\u2019s Italy that we didn\u2019t know we all crave be go back to again and again.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t yet had the opportunity to see\u00a0Call Me by Your Name<\/em>, one of the 9 Best Picture nominees<\/strong>, we are not going to spoil it for you. Let us just spike your curiosity by telling you that this endearing motion picture takes us through Elio\u2019s journey of self discovery at 17 years old. It\u2019s a tale about love, friendship, coming of age, and most of all, learrning to embrace every moment of your life.<\/p>\n

The man behind the curtain\u2026 Luca\u00a0Guadagnino.<\/h4>\n

Call Me by Your Name\u2019s own director, Luca\u00a0Guadagnino fell in love with a gorgeous 17th century villa a few years back. After having visited Villa Albergoni, a 17th-century estate in Lombardy, the director ended up chosing it as Pearlman\u2019s family residence.<\/p>\n

To make everything look real and create the most honest and authentic experience of the 1980s, the director called upon his interior designer friend,\u00a0Violante Visconti di Modrone<\/strong><\/span>. This was the designer\u2019s first time creating a movie set, and she spent more than a month\u00a0collecting furniture and paintings<\/strong><\/span> from antique shops to create the happy, yet almost sad feeling that guides us through the entire movie.<\/p>\n

Elio\u2019s bedroom<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 which was actually more of Oliver\u2019s room (if you don\u2019t know who Oliver is, you really need to go see this movie, ASAP!) \u2013 was created to look classic, yet youthful enough that\u2019d make us believe a 17-year-old lived there.<\/p>\n

Aside from the classic-looking furniture, a series of 1<\/strong>980s-related props<\/strong><\/span> were added to the walls and the desk. A reference to Roland Garros tournament of 1981 can be seen next to the beds.<\/p>\n

The Pearlman\u2019s living room<\/strong><\/em><\/span> was designed to be the\u00a0heart of the house<\/em>, a place of culture and leisure. To create this look, di Modrone chose a series of japanese paintings that would hang in the walls, and covered the whole floor with carpets for a more comfortable feeling. The main idea was to create a living space around the classic piano and the television set, which can be seen on the far left top corner.<\/p>\n

The Pearlman\u2019s office<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>is all about books. Most of the books actually came with the rented house, as did the scarlet sofa, while other books were rented for the duration of the movie. On the main wall behind the sofa you can also see small pictures of Lombard kings surrounding a gold-framed mirror<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. To make the office look more even more real and used, a series of archeological props were added.<\/p>\n

Aside from all the work that was put into conveying the idea that the Pearlman\u2019s were not a rich and shabby family through their perfectly designed home , the director and the production design team were extremely careful about choosing all the other sets. In fact, director Luca\u00a0Guadagnino is known for the rich sets of his movies, and this was no exception.<\/p>\n

The little village<\/strong> where the characters keep on meeting, the idylic lakes<\/strong> where they swim at midnight or right before sunrise, and the\u00a0trails<\/strong> where they take their bikes on\u2026 Everything was thought down to the last detail to make us feel part of this passionate and thrilling world of mad love.<\/p>\n
