Apple<\/a> announced the launch of\u00a0HomePod just three days ago at its annual\u00a0Worldwide Developers Conference at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. As it would be expected, the Siri-enabled speaker\u00a0links up with the\u00a0Apple Home app,\u00a0allowing users to\u00a0control their connected smart home\u00a0devices by voice, without touching their iPhone or iPad. To enable it and start using it, users must simply say \u201cHi Siri\u201d followed by their command to trigger Apple\u2019s intelligent personal assistant to change the light setting, pause the TV or close the blinds.<\/p>\n

However, it is on sound quality that Apple hopes to distinguish HomePod from the dominant smart speakers on the market. The world-famous tech company says the speaker produces a high-quality sound that puts it on par with \u201cun-smart<\/em>\u201d home music systems like Sonos. Apple\u2019s\u00a0senior vice president of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller said that the device will \u201creinvent home music\u2026 just like the iPod reinvented music in our pockets<\/em>\u201c. \u201cApple reinvented portable music with iPod and now HomePod will reinvent how we enjoy music wirelessly throughout our homes<\/em>,\u201d said Schiller.<\/p>\n

With just under seven inches and featuring a rounded mesh covering, the speaker includes an Apple-designed woofer that allows the volume to be turned up without distortion, as well as\u00a0seven beam-forming tweeters at the base that offer directional control. Other features include\u00a0a\u00a0room-sensing technology that will automatically adapt the sound to the size of its\u00a0location. To top this up, the brand announced that our well-known Siri will also become a \u201cmusicologist\u201d, learning users\u2019 music preferences and answering questions like \u201cwho is the drummer?\u201d.<\/p>\n
