Decorator and native New Yorker Courtney O\u2019Sullivan crafts her own Brooklyn Town House.<\/h2>\n

When interior decorator\u00a0Courtney O\u2019Sullivan of Left Bank Design<\/a>\u00a0was growing up in New York, brownstones were either being hastily converted into apartments or demolished to make way for white glazed\u2013brick high-rises. Back then, if you desired your own home, you moved to the suburbs. Today, however, scores of brownstones in all five boroughs are shrouded in scaffolding as they get converted into some of the most desirable residences in town. May they all turn out as beautifully and livable as the one transformed by O\u2019Sullivan on DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Below, check out the incredible Bro0klyn town house<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>decorated by Courtney O\u2019Sullivan that is filled with midcentury magic in every corner, furniture piece<\/strong> <\/a>and color palette!<\/p>\n

\u201cThe staircase was one of the few elements we kept,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan says. \u201cThe newel post was jacked up, but we restored the original wood.\u201d An\u00a0Isamu Noguchi lamp lights the entry foyer.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The living room<\/strong><\/a> is a perfect example of O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s aesthetic. An angular brass chandelier by\u00a0Gaetano Sciolari\u00a0hangs over a massive oak table attributed to\u00a0Charles Dudouyt\u00a0that O\u2019Sullivan discovered at Paris\u2019s famed Clignancourt flea market. Both are flanked by a painting by German artist Martin Kaspar. A\u00a0Curtis Jere brass starburst\u00a0above the fireplace overlooks a gracefully curved\u00a0Vladimir Kagan\u00a0sofa recovered in\u00a0Knoll\u00a0boucl\u00e9 wool and a Hans Wegner woven sling chair<\/strong><\/a> centered around a\u00a0Silas Seandel\u00a0metal-based and glass-topped cocktail table from the \u201970s. Of the three framed works on the right, the paintings are unattributed Paris flea market finds. The ink art is by\u00a0Marco del Re\u00a0from the\u00a0Galerie Maeght\u00a0in Paris.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The near floor-to-ceiling windows spotlight one of the sensually undulating Baumann and Fil screens that were originally designed in the \u201940s to hide cash registers in department stores. It stands behind a\u00a0Poul Jensen\u00a0Z chair upholstered<\/strong><\/a> in Schumacher velvet and an\u00a0Angelo Mangiarotti\u00a0black marble table. On the side is a\u00a0Harry Balmer\u00a0patinated steel lamp atop a lacquered burl wood table by\u00a0Edward Wormley.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Light pours in from a floor-to-ceiling wall of windows to add a glow to the kitchen<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s custom-polished tinted concrete tiles. In front of the custom cabinetry<\/strong><\/a> is a custom matte concrete countertop and two bentwood stools by\u00a0Zeitraum. The\u00a0Lindsey Adelman\u00a0chandelier and the Knoll table are surrounded by chairs found in the Paris neighborhood Clignancourt.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The ample bluestone-tiled backyard gets sunlight\u2014an unusual fact for a brownstone\u2019s backspace. O\u2019Sullivan considers it \u201ca marvelous oasis we try to use year-round. In the fall, all the foliage turns a stunning yellow and orange<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d Note the massive windows that capture the sunlight for the kitchen and dining room<\/strong><\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The all-white second floor library is notable for its\u00a0Stilnovo\u00a0chandelier, curvaceous\u00a0Harry Balmer\u00a0patinated steel lamp, the \u201950s\u00a0George Mathias\u00a0etched bronze coffee table<\/strong><\/a>, and vintage\u00a0Beni Ourain\u00a0woven rug from Marrakech. The vintage chair is from the \u201940s, and the leather sofa in the foreground is by\u00a0De Seda.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

William Morris\u00a0wallpaper surrounds an\u00a0RH framed bed. This bedroom<\/strong><\/a> also features another Noguchi light fixture and another rug from Marrakech.<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
