This layout, which automatically created a semi-private enclosure to one side, added a more exclusive, formal edge to confront the public world on the other. The vase is based on the designer\u2019s sketches for a series of glassware Eskimoerindens skinnbuxa (The Eskimo woman\u2019s leather trousers), which he submitted to a design competition held by the Karhula-Iittala glassworks in 1936. The first series of glassware was made to be shown in the Finnish section at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
