The 1956 haunt was designed by Edward L. Varney, a student of architect\u00a0Frank Lloyd Wright, and many of its original elements remain today.\u00a0This is definitely one of the best ways to experience the joyful, colorful and playful mid-century style<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In fact, you can\u2019t spell mid-century style<\/a><\/strong> without Palm Springs, one of the most iconic locations for the American mid-century. Architect Albert Frey, the king of desert modernism, designed this historic hotel in 1960 and in 2015 the now owners of Monkey Tree bought the property, having left many of the original design elements<\/a><\/strong> untouched. Legends like Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, and Gene Wilder chose Monkey Tree for accommodations, and now it\u2019s still a celebrity hotspot.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, Hawaii<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

For a surf-inspired version of the midcentury-modern movement<\/a><\/strong>, head to the Surfjack in Waikiki, Hawaii. The building was constructed in 1961 for another project by Hawaii architect and hotelier Roy Kelley, but this hotel only opened in 2016. Ceilings, koa-wood furniture with a clear mid-century inspiration<\/a><\/strong>, and vintage postcards, are what you\u2019ll find at Surfjack Hotel.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
