Palm Royale is inspired by the iconic photographer Slim Aarons, known for capturing the glamorous world of jet-setters and aristocracy. Executive Producer Abe Sylvia was drawn to Aarons’ ability to create self-contained worlds, free from outside distractions. While the original book was set in Palm Springs, Sylvia chose to change the location to Palm Beach, focusing on the captivating lives of the women behind the glamorous facade.

When we are developing and dressing a set, the amount of attention to detail that goes into that is of utmost importance.

Palm Royale Production designer Jon Carlos

Production designer Jon Carlos and set decorator Ellen Reede meticulously crafted the sets for Palm Royale. Their attention to detail was paramount, extending even to items that might never appear on screen. Every drawer was filled with realistic contents, reflecting the character’s personal style and habits. This commitment to authenticity enhanced the immersive experience for viewers.

Discovering locations in Los Angeles that resembled the opulence of Palm Beach proved to be a challenge. The mansions featured in Palm Royale are as distinctive as the characters themselves, each interior playing a crucial role in the narrative. Norma’s Italian villa-style mansion, complete with a 14-foot-high self-portrait, is one of the most opulent sets in the show.

For the pink-hued, ivy-covered mansion, set decorator Ellen Reede drew inspiration from the work of design icon Tony Duquette. This meticulous attention to detail reflects Norma’s well-traveled nature and desire for a sophisticated and luxurious home. The production team went on a treasure hunt for mid-century modern and antique relics to complete the look. Iconic pieces like an oversized brass rolodex, a trio of taxidermized peacocks, and opulent crystal sconces add to the grandeur of the set.

The Palm Royale Country Club, a central location in the series, combines elements of iconic Palm Beach venues like The Breakers, Addison Mizner’s Everglades Club, and The Bath and Tennis Club. The design team carefully selected locations and created custom sets to capture the essence of these prestigious establishments. While a single location with all the desired features couldn’t be found, the designers utilized a variety of locations, including the Wiltshire Ebell Theater in LA. The club’s grand ballroom and other luxurious amenities were brought to life through meticulous set design and attention to detail.

In the glamorous world of Palm Beach society, the social season is a highlight, with events like the Cuban-inspired auction gala “Havana Knights” taking center stage. The Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles served as a stunning backdrop for this event, doubling for the famed Breakers in Palm Beach. Production designer Sylvia envisioned a swimming pool for the set, and the team responded by constructing one in the heart of the Biltmore Hotel ballroom. Feather-clad showgirls added a touch of glamour as they danced across the pool. The social season culminated in the highly anticipated “Beach Ball,” where no detail was overlooked. Even the napkin rings were vintage, adding to the opulence of the event. This see-and-be-seen gala showcased the extravagance and sophistication of Palm Beach society.

The legs are tapered and made of metal, with small round leg caps, providing a full contrast of shapes. The back has a degree reclining, so it can be used both as a living room sofa or as a lounge sofa for a chic bar.

Part of a larger design collection for the living room but it can also be used as a side chair. Its curved low back has some stitched seam accents that give it a stylish look. It features a round polished brass swivel base that contrasts with the dreamy cotton velvet.

The Zsa Zsa bar chair is inspired by Zsa Zsa Gabor’s sensuality and fun personality. Its burlesque concept features fringes and a strong color combination, evoking the glamour of the “Moulin Rouge.” This bar chair is perfect for adding a “WOW” factor to a fun kitchen design or a glamorous bar area.
