Head scarfs, attached around the front of the neck… The image can makes us travel back in time but don’t be mistaken – it’s well present nowadays in the world’s biggest runaway shows. It’s not a drill, it’s back and it’s in full swing, ready to take over street style.
A timeless accessories, versatile and fashionable, the head scarf has occupied many roles as time went by. From the women working in the fields of the countryside, wearing head scarfs to protect their hair from the dirt and head from the sun, straight to the most glamorous adaptation, eternalized by Hollywood divas such as Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor or Ingrid Bergman, especially in the 1960’s.
But it was Grace Kelly, in 1959, in a party hosted by Aristóteles Onassis, that she gave yet another use to this accessory – in this case, a Hermès scarf, made of chinese silk and hand painted, known as carré – using it to wrap around an injured arm. Of course, it turned heads and it inspired the headscarf to be eternalized in the heads of many iconic actresses that gave this simple accessory an extreme elegance.
Today, we take a step back in time to bring the headscarfs into the fashion world once again. The main role in many runaway shows, this accessory returned with stunning grace in presentations of Donatella Versace, Richard Quinn, Gucci, J. W. Anderson, Michael Kors and Max Mara. Now you can see it in every street near you with the same style and elegance as in the past.
