Interior of a small apartment is a serious matter, you can not make mistakes. There are rules and do not adhere to them very risky. But is everything so strict? – By no means. Some design recommendations have long turned into myths that can not bring good, but harm. So, today we debunk three basic myths about the design of small-sized apartments.
Myth number 1: A small apartment should be decorated only in light colors
This, you can say, the rule, which became an axiom. But it was thanks to him that a lot of absolutely faceless interiors appeared in beige tones. Some small-sized owners accept this recommendation too literally, being afraid to use rich shades and contrasts. And in vain! Since it is the balance of dark and light colors that allows you to play with the visual dimensions of the room. For example, a light interior with an accent wall of dark gray, green, blue or any other color will look quite spacious, but not boring.

Myth number 2: In small rooms it is desirable to use all levels
Here it is a question of pendant lockers, shelves and other furniture, allowing to use the upper level. Yes, if there is a catastrophically shortage of storage space, this is a very sensible piece of advice. But do not get carried away with this idea. The fact is that any objects located at altitude, literally overhanging their heads and, worse still, visually eat up space. Therefore, experts recommend not to hang the shelves around the perimeter of the room, and allocate for this purpose one wall, so as not to overload the entire interior.

Myth number 3: A small apartment – small furniture
Logically, everything is true: compact pieces of furniture in a small room leave more space. But, again, it is much more reasonable to reduce not the dimensions of furniture, but its quantity. Think for yourself: small items “crush” the already small space of the room, turning it into a kind of doll house. At the same time, if there is not enough furniture, but it will be large enough and comfortable, the interior will seem more complete and accurate – no visual noise. Here the rule is ideally applied: “less – means more”.
