In 2002, restaurateur Mourad Mazouz and French chef Pierre Gagnaire opened a Sketch in London‘s Conduit Street – a large complex of several establishments, each dedicated to good cuisine, contemporary art or music.
The Gallery restaurant occupies a special place in this complex – every two years the owners give its space to modern artists and decorators, giving them complete freedom of action.

The fresh interior of an unusual pop-up project in a stone English house of the 18th century is the collaboration of British artist David Shrigley, who hung a new collection of his drawings on the walls, and India Mahdavi decorator, who drew social graphics in dusty pink, copper and velvet furniture in the form Cakes. “The starting point for all my projects is always the location and character of the space,” says the decorator, “and each of them is an open question, which always has one, unique solution.”
For the space of The Gallery, this decision was generally a classic monochrome interior with Art Deco elements, which works as an aesthetic antithesis to the ironic caricatures of David Shrigley. In companions to the Hollywood pink and plush decorator took polished copper and miniature point light-emitting diodes – they illuminate both tables and naive drawings of the artist. The only thing the owners of the restaurant asked to create is to preserve the marble floors that the British contemporary artist Martin Creed has designed, creating The Gallery two years ago and whose graphical mosaic in the spirit of the 1970s blended perfectly with the new concept of aesthetic contrasts.

The final touch was the collection of dishes by David Shrigley – the artist came up with a collection of plates and cups for the restaurant with naive drawings, which, according to his sketches, were made in the English porcelain manufactory Caverswall.
