Today being the first official day of Summer, we just couldn’t let this go by unnoticed. And because Summer carries such a mid-century vibe, we decided to mix them both together and show you some ideas on how you can change your outdoors with a few simple, but stunning backyard ideas. This will show you that the mid-century style doesn’t have to be kept indoors and you can totally transport it to the outdoor.

1. Get a pool
The first step to achieving a true mid-century modern outdoor is getting a pool. Yes, that might be a serious investment, but it will be very much worth it. If you think about mid-century homes, you will understand that most of them feature a pool, even if it is just a small one. This might be connected to the Palm Springs vibe of the style, but we absolutely adore it!
2. Get a few succulents
Once again, inspired by the western mid-century design of Palm Springs, we tend to associate this style with dry locations, full of succulents. The good thing about them is that they look effortlessly good, even if you are not the biggest garden fairy and forget to care for them.
3. Put up a few minimalist chairs
If you’re a mid-century lover, you have already noticed that most of the designs are very simple and don’t need a lot of details. Put a few of them in your backyard porch and let them speak for themselves.

Leather cushions add comfort and color to Essential Home’s Reeves chair. Sit and relax, let the style sink in while sipping a tasty cocktail.
4. Level your deck
Install a leveled deck. This will create a more intimate space, away from the pool and the water splashes. Enjoy this idea and set up a dining area for the warmer Summer nights!
5. Install a fireplace

At first sight, it might be confusing, but if you are lucky enough to have a spacious backyard, especially like the one shown above – by the water -, having a small fireplace can be one of the most comforting things in your whole backyard. A lovely idea for those last Summer nights of September.
