Ever wondered what it’d be like to have a house with a curved roof?
Known as the Avocado Acres House, this is a mid-century house in California that features none other than… a curved roof! Surfside Projects together with architect Lloyd Russell have completed this very modern home Encinitas that from the front looks like an ordinary mid-century modern home, with a slanted and angular part of the roof showing, and a yellow door. The true surprise comes from above, where you can see the unique curved roof that gives a lot of personality to this amazing home. Let’s see it!
Once in the patio, you are gently surprised by a stunning curved roof that creates a gentle shade, at the same time it lets the sun shine on the grass. Bright blue patio furniture provides a nice place to lounge outside.
The roof slopes upwards, providing space for a set of clerestory windows. Circular stone steps create a path through the yard, connecting the different rooms of the house.
Around the corner from the dining room, we find the living room, that features concrete walls with a wood ceiling and floor. Retro toys, wood furniture, and artwork add character to this relaxed space. A white and black fireplace stands out and keeps the space warm.
On the other side of the dining room is the kitchen, where light green hexagonal tiles are used as a backsplash. A large white and wood island compliments the white and wood cabinets used throughout the kitchen.
GET THE LOOK
Dandy is a sleek and stylish sideboard. Its body is entirely made of solid walnut wood and it resembles a kitsch radio, because of its shape and the use of grill cloth on the doors.
At the end of the hallway are the master bedroom and master bathroom. The bathroom is mostly white, except for the bright pop of color of the tiled bathroom floor.
And finally, you can see how this unique house looks from above! The aerial view gives us a completely new perspective of the house and its curved roof.
