The perfect hotel room design is out there, and today we are getting closer to imagining it than ever before.
Creating a home away from home is definitely not an easy task, but that is exactly what designing a hotel room means. Designers all over the world are continuously tasked with the challenge of creating an environment that is cozy and inviting; a room that calls for comfort and allows us to experience relaxation almost as if we were in our own home. This said, it’s not easy to imagine the perfect hotel room design, but let your mind wander with us for a little bit…

If you think about it, there are a few essentials every hotel room design needs to have to ensure maximum comfort and create the ultimate hotel experience. Those essentials include the obvious, such as a nice bed, one or two side tables for support, a cozy armchair (or even a settee), and good lighting to guarantee the perfect environment. Only by securing these essential elements can you be close enough to imagine a hotel room decoration that ticks all the boxes.
Our main inspiration
These are just a few of the pieces we believe would definitely make a difference when designing the perfect hotel room. But because there is more to it, let’s break it down…
The Bed
We believe that a hotel room decoration should be thought around its central feature, the bed. Probably the most important furniture element in any room, whether in a home or hotel, the bed should set the overall mood for the room decor. For argument’s sake let’s take as the central element of our perfect hotel room design a velvet upholstered bed. Take note that we mainly chose velvet due to its cozy appearance, making it great for our utopian hotel room. From here, we would go with a couple of other velvet items, making sure to add a few other rougher elements for contrast.
The Side Tables
Every bed needs one or two side tables for support, because where else are we going to put our cellphones and glass of water for the night? As opposed to our own bedrooms, where we like to have a drawer to store some other essentials, in a hotel room we might not feel that need, as we will only be spending a few nights. Here, the side tables should match the style of the bed without compromising their own aesthetic. For a velvet upholstered bed, we would go with a minimalist marble side table or a sleek mid-century end table.
The Armchair
Even if you don’t have an armchair in your own bedroom at home, chances are you expect to see one when you walk into a hotel room. This is because an armchair adds to the feeling of comfort we are used to expecting from hotel room designs. In this case, we would go with an equally velvet upholstered armchair, but maybe with a few brass details, which would go beautifully with the brass features of the side table pictured above.
The Lighting
And while we should all know lighting is a key aspect in every interior design, we can’t stress the importance of good lighting in a hotel room decor enough. It can help create a dramatic ambiance, as well as a cozy environment to come back to at night. Dimmers will help to achieve that effect, but lighting design can also play a big part in creating a feel for the hotel room decoration.
The Extras for Dramatic Effect
Apart from all these central elements, you can and should consider a few extras to complete your design. The right accessory placed on the right table can add to the cozy feeling of the room, just as a nice painting can bring the room design to a new level. For our utopian hotel room design, we would go with an extra table for the living area, as well as a comfortable corner sofa.
